On 10 January 2002, Flight 421 operated by Garuda Indonesia experience a double engine failure after entering severe turbulence during a thunderstorm. Miraculously the pilots were able to perform an emergency landing of the plan on a river near Klaten, Java. Of the 60 crew and passengers onboard, one crew member perished with 44 passengers and crew injured.
